Updating to a new version of TPTM

What the new-version notice means, what happens when you click Reload or Not now, and why TPTM never reloads your page on its own.

Overview

TPTM is improved and released regularly. If a new version comes out while you are working and you stay on the same page, a small notice appears in the bottom-right corner reading A new version of TPTM is available. It is an offer, not an alarm — nothing on your page changes until you choose Reload, and TPTM never reloads the page out from under you. Anyone using TPTM in a browser can see it; there is nothing to install.

How to take the update

  1. Finish and save whatever you are in the middle of. A reload starts the page fresh, so anything typed but not yet saved is not kept.

  2. Click Reload on the notice.

  3. The page reloads and brings you back to the same place, now running the new version.

How to put it off

  1. Click Not now on the notice, or the small x in its corner.

  2. The notice closes and does not come back for that version. Keep working as normal.

  3. The next time you move from one page to another, TPTM picks up the new version as part of that move, and you land on the page you were heading to.

Frequently Asked Questions

A new version of TPTM was released while your browser was still running the previous one, and you have stayed on the same page for a few minutes — so TPTM offers you the update instead of taking it. Nothing is wrong and nothing has been lost. Click Reload when you reach a good stopping point, or Not now to keep going.

Anything you have already saved is safe. A reload starts the page fresh, the same as refreshing any web page, so text typed into a form but not yet saved is not kept. Save or finish what you are doing first, then click Reload on the A new version of TPTM is available notice. Nothing reloads until you click it.

The A new version of TPTM is available notice closes and does not come back for that version, so you are asked once per new version rather than repeatedly. You can keep working as normal. The next time you move from one page to another, TPTM loads the new version as part of that move and you land on the page you were going to.

No. While you stay on a page, TPTM never reloads it for you — the A new version of TPTM is available notice waits for you to decide. Opening a drawer, changing a filter, or stepping a date never causes a reload either, even when a new version is waiting. TPTM only switches you to the new version when you move from one page to another, and then it lands you on the page you were already heading to.

Most people move between pages often enough that TPTM picks up a new version quietly during one of those moves, with nothing to ask about and nothing to see. The A new version of TPTM is available notice is only for a page you have left open for several minutes while a new version is waiting — for example a schedule you keep on screen all morning.

You can keep working, and nothing stops you. It is worth reloading the same day, though: an older version left running can start to disagree with the rest of TPTM and show errors on pages that work fine for everyone else. Closing the tab and opening TPTM again has the same effect as clicking Reload.

No — there is no setting for it, and it works the same way for everybody. It appears at most once for each new version of TPTM, sits in the bottom-right corner, and never blocks the page or the buttons you are using. Clicking Not now closes it until the next new version.

No. The A new version of TPTM is available notice is about using TPTM in a web browser, whether on a computer or a phone. The TPTM Field app looks after its own updates and does not show this notice.
