Global Search Guide
π What is Global Search?
Global Search is a powerful tool that lets you quickly find and navigate to any lot, trade partner, community, or work order in your organization. Think of it as a "search everything" feature that works from anywhere in the application.
π How to Access Global Search
Keyboard Shortcuts (Recommended)
Windows/Linux: Press
Ctrl + KMac: Press
Cmd + KAlternative: Press
/(forward slash)
Search Buttons
Look for search buttons in these locations:
Navigation bar - Usually in the top header
Sidebar - In the main navigation menu
Page toolbars - In action bars on various pages
Empty states - When no data is displayed
π What You Can Search
Global Search finds these types of items:
π Lots
What: Individual lots in communities
Shows: Lot number and community name
Example: "Lot 123 - Maple Ridge Community"
π₯ Trade Partners
What: Companies and contractors you work with
Shows: Company name and contact information
Example: "ABC Construction Co."
ποΈ Communities
What: Housing developments and neighborhoods
Shows: Community name and location
Example: "Maple Ridge Community"
π Work Orders
What: Maintenance and construction work orders
Shows: Work order number, status, and price
Example: "WO-2024-001 - In Progress - $5,000"
π How to Use Global Search
1. Open the Search
Use keyboard shortcut (
Ctrl+KorCmd+K)Or click any search button in the interface
2. Type Your Search
Start typing immediately when the search opens
Search is case-insensitive
You can search by:
Names (lot numbers, company names, community names)
Work order numbers (WO-2024-001)
Partial matches (typing "maple" will find "Maple Ridge")
3. Browse Results
Results are grouped by type (Lots, Trade Partners, etc.)
Recent items appear at the top for quick access
Each result shows:
Item name/title
Brief description
Type icon for easy identification
4. Navigate to Results
Click on any result to go directly to that item
Use arrow keys to navigate through results
Press Enter to select the highlighted result
Press Escape to close the search

Be Specific
Good: "WO-2024" (finds work order 2024-001)
Good: "Maple Ridge" (finds the community)
Good: "ABC Construction" (finds the trade partner)
Use Partial Matches
Type just the first few letters
Search works with partial words
No need to type the full name
Check Recent Items
Recently visited items appear at the top
Great for quickly returning to items you've been working with
Look at the Icons

Press

Find the trade partner in the results
Click to view their details
Checking Work Order Status
Use keyboard shortcut to open search
Type the work order number (e.g., "WO-2024")
Find the work order in the results
Click to see current status and details
Browsing Communities
Open search
Type part of the community name
Browse all matching communities
Click to view community details

Search Not Working?
Check your keyboard: Make sure you're using the right shortcut for your operating system
Try the button: Look for search buttons in the navigation
Refresh the page: Sometimes a page refresh helps
Can't Find What You're Looking For?
Try different terms: Use partial names or numbers
Check spelling: Search is forgiving but exact spelling helps
Look in recent items: Recently visited items appear first
Search Results Seem Incomplete?
Wait a moment: Search data loads when you first open it
Try again: Results are cached for 5 minutes for performance
