Adjusting schedule

Shift a lot's schedule when dates change — from a single task, by moving the whole schedule a number of working days, or by re-laying it from a template.

Overview

Once a lot's schedule is laid down, real life moves it: a task runs long, weather stops work, or a change order pushes everything out. TPTM gives project managers and schedulers three ways to adjust a schedule without re-entering every task.

  • From a task — change a schedule task's due date and choose how much of the change overlaps the next tasks and how much pushes them out.

  • Move schedule — shift every remaining task on the lot forward or back by a number of working days from the Overall timeline.

  • Schedule from template — replace the remaining schedule with a fresh one from a template, starting on a new date.

How to adjust the schedule from a task

  1. Open a schedule task on the lot — from the lot's page, or by right-clicking its day cell on the Overall timeline and choosing View task.

  2. Change the task's due date. An Adjust schedule section appears saying how many days later or earlier the task now finishes.

  3. Split those days between Overlap (days) and Push out (days) (or Pull forward (days) when the task finishes earlier). The two always add up to the size of the change.

  4. If other lots depend on this one, choose whether to Also shift downstream lots by the same amount.

  5. Save the task. The following tasks move by the push-out amount.

How to move a whole schedule from the timeline

  1. Open Schedule in the navigation and click Overall timeline.

  2. Right-click the day cell on the lot's row for the date you want the move to start from, and choose Move schedule.

  3. In Move Schedule for the lot, enter Days to move — a positive number pushes the schedule out, a negative number pulls it in. The dialog previews the direction and the new start date.

  4. If other lots depend on this one, choose whether to Also shift downstream lots by the same amount.

  5. Click Move Schedule. Every incomplete schedule task that starts on or after that date moves by that many working days, and the timeline refreshes.

How to re-lay the schedule from a template

  1. On the Overall timeline, right-click the day cell on the lot's row where the new schedule should start, and choose Schedule from template.

  2. Pick the Schedule template. Leave Delete existing schedule items on so the old tasks from that date onward are archived and replaced.

  3. To keep the work already done and restart part-way through the template, pick a Start from task.

  4. Confirm the trade partners and click Schedule.
